Welcome to the Manchester University Men’s Hockey Club Website
The University of Manchester Men’s Hockey Club is one of the largest, most successful and vibrant clubs in the Athletics Union and caters for students wanting to play hockey at a competitive standard. We currently have five teams competing in the British University Leagues (BUCS) on Wednesday afternoons, with the 1st Team expecting promotion back into BUCS North Premership (the highest tier of University Hockey). There has never been a better time to get involved with hockey at Manchester. The University teams train on a Monday evening with head coach John Bell and have addition sessions on Thursday and Friday.
The 2009-10 season will be the 8th since the very successful partnership with Brooklands Hockey Club was formed. One of the most successful hockey clubs in North West England; Brooklands MUHC have seven men's teams of various standards competing in leagues at the weekends. The 1st team have just gained promotion to the National Premier League and after the recent merger with Poynton Women’s HC, Brooklands MUHC are now one of only 3 super-clubs in England, i.e. both Men’s and Women’s teams play in the National Premier League. Membership of the University of Manchester Men’s Hockey Club includes student membership of Brooklands Sports Club, which along with hockey also allows the students to play Tennis and Cricket for the club. Around 40 students play for Brooklands MUHC every weekend.
Men’s Hockey at Manchester also boasts one of the keenest social scenes in the AU. Weekly post-game socials are a key part of the hockey club as are events such as club curry, pub golf, fancy dress, old boy’s weekend, tour and the AU ball. Therefore we provide excellent opportunities to play hockey at any standard whilst making lifelong friends and enjoying what University life has to offer.
Please feel free to look round the website and email: Jamie.Stanley@student.manchester.ac.uk (Club Captain of Manchester University Mens Hockey Club) if you would like more information or would like to join the club next year.
